FARMINGDALE HIGH SCHOOL GETS NEW PRINCIPAL

Farmingdale School District is proud to announce the selection of Jed Herman for the position of principal of Farmingdale High School. The Farmingdale Board of Education officially appointed Mr. Herman on June 29, 2022.

“Farmingdale High School will continue to support students’ social-emotional learning,” said Jed Herman. “We want our graduates to be socially and emotionally healthy, have a clear concept of their own identity, and feel a sense of belonging in the community.”

Mr. Herman is a veteran educator with nearly 20 years of experience, most recently as the Assistant Principal of Farmingdale High School. He has served as Assistant Principal since 2017. Before coming to Farmingdale, he was the Chairperson for Special Education at Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, NY. Before becoming an administrator, he taught at Robert F. Kennedy High School in Flushing, NY, and Syosset High School for several years.

“Farmingdale understands and values that there are multiple pathways to future success,” said Jed Herman. “We want to give our graduates opportunities to pursue their passions, gain real-world experiences, and have exposure to a wide variety of motivating and inspiring learning experiences.”

Mr. Herman earned a Masters in Secondary Education from Adelphi University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Binghampton University. He also has an Advanced Masters Certificate in School Leadership from Stony Brook University and is ABD for a Doctoral in Education from St. John’s University. He is married with three boys and resides in Wantagh, NY.

“Mr. Herman needs no introduction; he is sincere, reflective, intelligent, hardworking, and enthusiastic,” said Superintendent Paul Defendini. “Mr. Herman successfully navigated a multi-step interview process that included dozens of stakeholder groups. I invite you all to welcome Mr. Herman to his new role as Principal of Farmingdale High School as he leads us all into an exciting future together.”

Mr. Herman officially began his tenure on July 1, 2022. The search the find his replacement as Assitant Principal is currently underway.
