Farmingdale High School’s second annual Trade School Fair was on Thursday, March 23rd. The fair, organized by Farmingdale High School teacher Ivelysse Powers and grades 9-12 Chairperson for Special Education Brian Norton, allowed students to learn more about different opportunities and career paths available in the local area. A diverse range of industry representatives spent the day speaking with students, answering questions, and sharing information to help interested students plan for a future that works.
“It’s important to provide our students with the opportunity to learn about different skilled trades and career paths,” said Ivelysse Powers. “For students starting to consider their next steps, it’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach.”
Some of the schools in attendance were: Lincoln Tech, The Learn Center, Hunter Business School, Advanced Manufacturing Training Center of Suffolk Community College, Long Island Beauty School, NY Automotive & Diesel Institute, Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute, Nassau County PD, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, Riverhead Building Supply, Slomins, and more.
"The Trade School Fair allows all our students to learn about transitioning from high school to career,” said Brian Norton. “For students to be able to discuss pathways to careers with people currently in the field is an invaluable experience."
