Ms. Darby's class at Albany Avenue found a unique way to enjoy the winter weather. They began reading There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow before starting a fun experiment. Using baking soda and white conditioner, the young students created snow by mixing the ingredients until they achieved the perfect consistency. The mixture even felt cold to the touch, thanks to an endothermic chemical reaction where it absorbed heat from its surroundings. The class discussed the science behind the reaction, using words such as "endothermic," "absorbs," "reaction," and "chemical." To reinforce the lesson, they retold the story while adding accessories to their snow, just like in the book.  At the end of the experiment, they created their very own snowmen!
