On Monday, March 18, 2024, a group of eighth-grade volunteers from Howitt Middle School traveled to Woodward Parkway for a lesson about friendship.

The middle school students began by reading aloud from Strictly No Elephants, a heartwarming story emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and acceptance. The colorful illustrations by Taeeun Yoo captured the imaginations of the second graders, transporting them into a world where differences were celebrated and friendships knew no bounds.

After the story, the volunteers engaged the students in lively discussions about being a good friend. The second graders eagerly shared their experiences and perspectives, while the eighth graders listened attentively, offering encouragement and wisdom.

As the lesson progressed, the students worked together on a fun coloring activity inspired by the book. By the end of the visit, laughter and smiles filled the air at Woodward Parkway. The eighth-grade volunteers had taught a lesson on friendship and exemplified it through their kindness, patience, and willingness to connect with the younger students.
