Fourteen student-musicians from Farmingdale School District performed at the 15th annual Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA) Day of Horn—held Friday, January 17, 2020 at Northport High School.

The Day of Horn ensemble included over 200 horn players, joining together for an afternoon of rehearsals and master classes. The guest artist this year was Dr. Heidi Lucas, Associate Professor of Horn at Indiana University in Pennsylvania.

The Day of Horn features concerts by the Northport Horn Club, the Suffolk Horn Club, the Day of Horn Student All Star Ensemble, and the Day of Horn Massed Horn Ensemble—comprised of all participating students from third to twelfth grade. Students were accompanied by music teachers Erica Hartmann and Christina Cinnamo.

The fourteen Farmingdale musicians that participated hail from Northside Elementary School, Weldon E. Howitt Middle School, and Farmingdale High School. They include: Gianna DiDio, Lily DiVuolo, Owen Mammolito, Lukas Mall, Isabella Babino, Jaylyn Umana, Andrew Freuman, Brandon McAteer, Michael Biscardi, Jaden Pesante, Carter Cinelli, Kaitlyn Abboud, Aidan Chung, and Lillian White.

“The Day of Horn is always a wonderful afternoon of making music,” said music teacher Erica Hartmann. “It's a great way to meet horn players from all over Long Island and hear professional players perform.”

The event is sponsored annually by the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA), which organizes numerous music festivals throughout the year.
