Young artists beamed with pride as they led their families through the displays, pointing out the intricate details of their latest masterpieces. This year’s District-Wide Art Show, held on May 11, 2026, transformed the Farmingdale High School commons into a professional gallery.

Celebrating Artistic Growth

Students from all six buildings shared their journeys through paintings, sculptures, and digital designs. Beyond the technical skill on display, the event highlighted the confidence of our creators. This exhibition allowed families to connect through the arts and witness the evolution of student creativity.

Supporting Future Masterpieces

The success of this showcase is a testament to the Fine Arts Department's commitment to nurturing talent. As these emerging artists continue to refine their craft, the district remains dedicated to providing a stage for every student to shine.

A quiet focused energy fills the room as students gather around glowing towers of greens, carefully testing the water that nourishes their crop. Every Monday since February, 32 students in the fourth and fifth grades have transformed into young scientists and farmers through the Hydroponics Club.

These students are doing more than just watering plants; they are mastering the delicate balance of pH levels and researching which crops thrive in the Northeast climate. From setting up complex water flow systems to transferring hearty herbs and lettuce to the outdoor garden, these club members are gaining hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture.

Under the guidance of Christine Breuer and Denise Dimakopoulos, the students manage every detail of the growing process, including monitoring mineral levels and building garden markers. This experience fosters a deep sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship. As these young growers look toward the final harvest, they carry with them the skills to cultivate a greener future for our entire community.

The stage transformed into a winter wonderland as the Woodward Parkway Theater Club brought the magic of Arendelle to life in their production of Disney Frozen KIDS. Student performers filled the stage for multiple enchanting shows on April 29, 2026, delivering high-energy performances during daytime shows for the student body and two evening shows for families and friends.

Finding Magic in Performance

The production went beyond simple storytelling; it served as a platform for students to build confidence and community. Director Emilie D'Andrilli and Musical Director Nicole Nappi led a dedicated cast and crew through months of preparation. Director Mrs. D'Andrilli shared her pride in the students' growth, noting that "watching these young performers find their voices and support one another has been the most rewarding part of this journey." Mrs. Nappi added that from the very first rehearsal, the experience was deeply meaningful, fostering a space where "making music together is the best way for two people to become friends".

Student Impact and Collaboration

The success of the show relied on a massive collaborative effort. High school volunteers from Farmingdale High School worked alongside elementary students, providing mentorship and technical support. This partnership highlighted the strong bond within the district and the invaluable role of the PTA, staff, and parents in supporting the arts.

Looking Toward the Future

As the final notes of the "Finale" faded, the performers left the stage with more than just applause. They carried with them new friendships and the pride of a job well done. The Woodward Parkway Theater Club continues to provide a vital outlet for creativity, ensuring that the next generation of performers is ready to take their next bow.

Students across the Farmingdale Union Free School District are discovering their voices and mastering instruments in classrooms that prioritize creativity. For the thirteenth consecutive year, the NAMM Foundation has recognized our schools with the Best Communities for Music Education designation. This national honor celebrates the deep-rooted musical culture that defines our student experience.

Excellence in Artistry and Support

The recognition reflects a community-wide dedication to the arts. High levels of student participation in the Band, Chorus, and Orchestra showcase the talent and discipline of our learners. Beyond the stage, music education helps students develop cognitive skills, social connections, and emotional resilience that last a lifetime.

"The Farmingdale music program is a source of immense pride for our community," said Director of Fine and Performing Arts Greg Warnokowski. "Winning this award underscores the strong bond between the district and the community, emphasizing our shared appreciation for music education. We are truly thankful to our parents, school leaders, and Board of Education for their steadfast support."

Looking Toward the Future

As we continue through the 2025-2026 school year, the district remains committed to expanding access to the arts. We look forward to seeing our student musicians reach new heights and continue this tradition of excellence for years to come.
