Social Work
School Social Workers are part of the student support team at each school in the Farmingdale School District. They work to help students with personal, family and school problems. The social workers provide a wide-range of services to support student growth and achievement. The goal of the school social worker is to help students:
- cope in times of crisis
- become resilient, successful learners
- gain personal and social competencies
All social workers work with teachers, administrators and other support staff to identify students' needs. This may include classroom lessons, short-term counseling (individual and small group), crisis intervention and academic support for students. They help connect families to appropriate local agencies. School Social Workers coordinate food and clothing drives and work closely with St. Killian in distributing school supplies. If you, or your child, have any questions please feel free to call the School Social Worker. Many times when you call a social worker is in a class. So, if you are unable to speak directly with the social worker please leave a message in the Main Office of the school.
