Frightfully Fun Tradition

Farmingdale High School’s 6th Annual Safe Halloween Event returned on Saturday, October 24, transforming the campus into an enchanting Halloween town for young Dalers and their families. Hundreds of tiny trick-or-treaters explored a maze of intricately decorated hallways, each showcasing a unique theme designed by Theatre 4 students: Sesame Street/Trolls, Fairytale Forest, Toons and Toys, Pink, Medieval Candy Kingdom, Supercity, and a Spooky Stargazing Festival.
More than 60 student actors and volunteers brought these spaces to life in full costume, posing for photographs, interacting with young guests, and distributing candy. Outside the main halls, the Real Harmony club and the Environmental Club hosted interactive tables, while the Farmindale PTA Council organized a popular Trunk or Treat experience.
Inside the gymnasium, families stepped into the dual-themed worlds of Fantasyland and Under the Sea. A captivating Día de los Muertos dance performance delighted audiences, while a nearby face-painting station transformed young faces into unicorns, tigers, and superheroes. The irresistible aroma of fresh popcorn and cotton candy drifted through the gym, offering classic festive treats for all.
Executing an event of this scale required weeks of dedicated preparation. While Theatre 4 students led the creative organization, several groups collaborated to bring those ideas to life. The Art Honor Society, Thespian Honor Society, and Playcrafters provided critical decorative and setup assistance. Special recognition goes to community member Erika Wells for her expert wig styling for the performers, and to the Life Skills class, who volunteered to launder all costumes following the event.
“Safe Halloween is not just a fun event for the community, but a chance for our students to showcase their talent and passion for the arts,” said Glen Beck, theater teacher at Farmingdale High School. “I couldn't be prouder of them. Our students worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect, which paid off.”
Anticipation is already building for next year’s creative concepts as Safe Halloween continues to stand out as a cherished local tradition. The theater students who organized the celebration invite all attendees to complete a quick survey to share their feedback and help make next year's event even better.
