Woodward Parkway Elementary School fourth-grade and fifth-grade students in the Hydroponics Club are deepening their knowledge of sustainable agriculture with a record enrollment of 39 young farmers. Due to surging popularity, the district added Thursday afternoon meetings to accommodate student overflow and ensure every child receives direct experience in soil-free cultivation.

Under the guidance of Co-Advisors Christine Breuer and Denise Dimakopoulos, club members manage every phase of the growing process. Students balance pH levels, regulate water delivery systems, and transition mature crops to outdoor garden beds. To strengthen the learning experience, former members now attending Howitt Middle School return as student helpers to mentor the elementary participants.

Parents have embraced the program expansion with deep gratitude. "The support from our families has been a breath of fresh air, and seeing these young children so passionate about environmental science makes every meeting rewarding," said Co-Advisor Christine Breuer.
