Steve Galindo credits his foundation in the district's vocational carpentry program for his national television appearance and career success.

Farmingdale High School graduate Steve Galindo recently appeared on HGTV, showcasing technical skills developed in the district's Career and Technical Education program. Galindo, founder of DHI Dependable Home Improvements, applied foundational woodworking and problem-solving techniques learned in high school to complete featured television projects.

During his time at Farmingdale High School, Galindo learned trade fundamentals under Woodshop Teacher Mr. Lawler. The hands-on curriculum focused on tool safety, material measurement, discipline, and practical problem-solving. Galindo maintained a lasting mentorship with Mr. Lawler throughout his career, contacting him immediately after securing the television opportunity.

"Bringing vocational carpentry skills I learned in high school to HGTV is honestly something I could have never imagined," Galindo said. "Vocational carpentry class gave me a great foundation, not just working with tools, but in problem-solving, paying attention to detail, and being proud of building something with my own hands."

Reflecting on his journey from the classroom to national television, Galindo encouraged current high school students to pursue trade pathways and embrace every educational opportunity.

"My biggest advice I would give students is not to be afraid, and take advantage of every learning opportunity you have," Galindo said. "Take learning seriously, and never underestimate where that learning can take you."
