We acknowledge that there are certain basic principles that shall guide the Board of Education in its actions and activities on behalf of our students and our community. The mission of the Farmingdale School District is to educate our students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers. It is our goal to empower each student to meet the challenges of tomorrow's emerging world. The District will provide a safe, nurturing environment in which individual and civic responsibility is fostered, diversity is respected, and all students are enabled to realize their full potential. To that end, we will:

Language Poster Contest Every year Long Island Language Teachers sponsors a
Language Poster contest. The poster contest was one of many activities language
teachers implemented during the school year to make second language study a dynamic
and relevant experience for students. Farmingdale was pleased to have 16 students
chosen as poster contest winners. Each student received a certificate from the
organization for their achievement. Congratulations to all the winners and their teachers.
This year the Newsday Future Corps Club was able to raise $300.00 through various

Mrs. Steffen's seventh grade students from Howitt Middle School were asked to "think outside their own box" and connect with the world around them. Mrs. Steffen asked students to create "artistic noise" as a social
awareness art project, not to exploit people's difficult situations,
but rather to bring attention to them. Students learned about being
proactive, by doing a good deed, without expecting anything in return. Art education has the opportunity to reach the essence of the soul and inspire moral character. Mrs. Steffen said that she was very moved because "these students have shown great examples of being humane human beings. The work is on display at the Farmingdale Public Library for the month of January.
On March 8th & 9th, Mrs. Kreuter's 8th grade Home & Career Skills classes welcomed more than 25 toddlers and preschoolers into the classroom for a play date. Together the students and the visitors prepared home made Play Doh to play with. The students had learned previously in their Child Development Unit that Play Doh was an excellent aide when developing gross and fine motor skills. The activity was age appropriate and encouraged students to work with the small children to make special creations. Fun was had by all and the Middle Schoolers had a wonderful learning experience while observing and playing with the little ones. The visitors were the younger siblings, family and friends of the students and the children of the faculty and staff at Howitt.
The Computer Lab will be open after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. in room 302 for students who need to do school work. Sign in as soon as you arrive.

The students participated in various activities that were encouraged by the McMillen educator on the effects that their behavior had on others and how negative behavior can result in consequences. Many of the students were selected to field various questions and participate in asynchronous activities. The Eighth grade students did an outstanding job of representing FPS and we are very proud!
